Abel’s is a converted barn with over 300 years of history. This delightful cottage was once the forge where the blacksmith Abel worked, serving the local parish of St. Gennys. The cottage is located up a mile long, single-track lane which passes through a stream. It is set within Cleave Farm’s fields and woodland and is very close to the spectacular, rugged Cornish path and coastline. The cottage is only 200 metres from the coast path and a six minute drive to fabulous Crackington Haven beach.
Abel’s is a wonderful cottage full of character and original features, but has been modernised to feel comfortable and snug. It has high original wooden beamed ceilings and retains some stone walls and slate floors – typical of a Cornish dwelling. The kitchen and living space is open plan and spacious. The kitchen is fully fitted with everything you need including a dishwasher, microwave and spacious fridge-freezer. The cottage has a large table to enjoy your meals and a comfy lounge to relax by the log fire in the evenings.
There is an upstairs bedroom with double bed, double room with a king-sized bed and a twin bedroom. There is a bathroom with bath and shower. Abel’s has central heating and a great wood burner – cosy when there is a wild Cornish storm! There will be a basket of logs for you on arrival; extra logs are available from nearby Wainhouse Corner. There is a large TV with Netflix, a DVD player, some boardgames and books for those rainy afternoons. Free WIFI is available in all the cottages. All bedding, towels, bathmats and tea towels are provided.
The cottages are set within eight dwellings, some of which are holiday accommodation and some are permanent residents. We live in Middle Cottage next door. Katy and family look forward to welcoming you to Cleave Farm and are here to offer you local advice and any support should you need it, but will respect your privacy.
Minimum stay two nights, however, May Whitsun holiday is weekly bookings only, as are July and August. Changeover day is Saturday during these periods.
Check in time is 3pm and check out is 10am on day of departure please. We need this time to ensure your cottage is cleaned thoroughly and to our high standards ready for your arrival. Contact me for an excellent rate if there are just two of you visiting out of the peak seasons.
Abel’s has a lovely, slated patio area with seating at the front of the property, perfect for sitting in the sunshine, eating meals, and watching the breath-taking starlit night skies. There is a shed with BBQ for your use – which you can store surfboards etc in. Your children and dogs will enjoy the garden area – plenty of space to kick a football around. Please note the garden is not enclosed, so some people stake their dogs on the lawn.
Three minutes walk across the garden and around the hedge in the cliff field, will take you to the coastal footpath and the spectacular rugged Cornish cliffs and breath-taking sunsets. The cottage is next to woodland, which belongs to Cleave Farm. Springtime is sublime, as the wildflowers take over and carpet the ground between ancient, twisting oaks and the wise old trees of the woodland. We are secluded and tucked away in a wonderful location, yet not too far from many exciting places that Cornwall has to explore. Many people return again and again to holiday at Cleave Farm – this is proof of the charm that this place offers!
Please be respectful of other people who live or are on holiday at Cleave Farm by being mindful of noise levels – Cleave Farm is more of a tranquil and relaxing space than a place to be loud and rowdy – we appreciate your understanding and being mindful of this. Quiet times between 9pm and 9am.
Your safety is a top priority for us and we are fully compliant with recent upgraded fire regulations. The cottages are equipped with carbon monoxide and fire alarms, fire doors and fire extinguisher and blanket.
